Musescore crashes every time I try to print, or preview as a PDF. (free version)
MacBook Pro, OSX 10.8.5. after starting a new score, if I try to print or preview as a PDF the program crashes. It's done this now about 2 dozen times over the last 20 hours.

Just one score or all scores? How are you trying to do this? Using MuseScore's built in File / Save As / PDF, or using the Mac's own PDF facility?
BTW, there is no non-free version of MuseScore. The only things you would need to pay for are the mobile apps or a "Pro" account on the score sharing site musescore.com. But MuseScore itself - the notation software - is always free.
