I would suggest that you read the handbook starting here: https://musescore.org/en/handbook-basics/note-input
I would suggest that you read the entire handbook at least once, there is a link to down load it to PDF here: https://musescore.org/en/download-handbook
You can of course skip over features (maybe figured bass or tablature) you don't plan on using them, just keep them in mind in case you later decide you want to use them.
Having said that, this is definitely the place to go for help. There are plenty of people willing to assist because there are things you can do with MuseScore that are not obvious even from the handbook.
To me, it doesn't sound stupid. You just need to learn the system. Follow the advice in the Handbook and I'm sure you will soon get it.
