Missing or weak sounds specially with percussion

• May 9, 2014 - 22:55

Hi!!!

I use MuseScore 1.3 and I have an standard PC, in other words: the typical motherboard with all included (specifically a MSI 7788 with a Realtek ALC887 sound card). I use Windows 7 pro.

Well, my problem is about some sounds (instruments) which sound too weak in comparison with the average power of the other sounds.

It is specially noticeable with the percussion sounds. For example: the bass and snare drums sound OK but the tom-tom drums sound too weak.

Also, I can hear some rare and random sounds from the percussion tracks.

At the beginning I thought it could be some speakers output configuration problem, but it is not (because I tested all the possible configurations and I always got the same problem).

I changed the soundfont (I like to use the GeneralUser GS MuseScore v1.44,sf2 file because it has the best realistic sounds to my personal purpose), and I tested 4 or 5 different soundfonts (even the SoundBlaster card soundfont) and the problem remains the same.

When I used my old PC, with the Creative SoundBlaster Live 5.1! sound card, I didn't have this problem. Now, with the new PC, I can't use that card (because it is a PCI card and the new motherboard doesn't have that connection).

Some idea about? ??? Is it just my personal problem? ??? Is it a general issue? ???

Please, help me!!!

Thanks a lot for your time!!!

GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!!!!!

You can control the relative volume of the instruments through Display / Mixer. This works the same for all soundfonts. Although if you're using a single "drumset", I don't think there is a way to change the relative volume of individual notes within it. Then you are up to the mercy of how the designer of that soundfont has chosen to balance the instruments. So if you don't like GeneralUser, or the other ones you tried, keep trying. Seems maybe you personally prefer toms louder than most soundfont designers if you've already tried a bunch and none sound the way you like.
