How do I change the instrument on a stave? The only way I have thought of is to create a new stave with the desired instrument and copy the whole stave onto it, then delete the original. There must be a better way

Right click a measure or the instrument name and select staff properties. In the middle on the left click "Change Instrument" and select the instrument you want. It will transpose the notes if needed such as going from a flute to a clarinet, but it will not change the octave or clef. You must do that yourself.

Many thanks, both. As a new user I don't find it obvious where in the handbook to look. Is there a search facility?

It's easier to download the PDF and use the PDF reader's search facility.

Thanks. Now why didn't I think of that? I must be getting old - actually I am old and Musescore is my attempt to keep the brain active!
