Can't Zoom In with CTRL+

• May 22, 2014 - 21:53

Hey:

Just started working with the program (and BTW, it's pretty amazing - especially for free!) and am going through the Handbook and Video Tutorials. I've encountered a rather annoying problem early on:

I can't zoom in using "Ctrl+".

Here's the situation:

- Windows 7
- Musescore v1.3 (Revision 5702 - the latest, just downloaded today)

- I am able to zoom (in and out) using the drop-down box with percentages;
- I am able to zoom (in and out) using Ctrl and the mouse scroll wheel;
- I am ONLY able to zoom OUT using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl-.

In other words, I CANNOT zoom IN using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+.

I've tried it on the default file ("Reunion") and creating a score from scratch. Same result. I can zoom every way EXCEPT the one I would use most often - "Ctrl+". It's particularly frustrating because "Ctrl-" works fine every time, just how you would expect, but no matter how many different ways I try "Ctrl+", it never works.

I tried searching around (this forum and the net) for a fix, but nobody else seems to have this particular problem.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

What keyboard layout do you use? Is it possible that the + is also another character? If yes, there might be a shortcut conflict. You can check the shortcuts list in Edit -> Preferences -> Shortcuts

Hey:

Thanks for the quick reply - it helped me solve the problem!

For those who may be having a similar issue, here's the culprit AND the solution:

On my keyboard, the "+" sign is on the same key as the equals sign - BUT ABOVE IT - meaning that to type "+", I usually have to hit "Shift" first. [Note: But hitting "Ctrl" plus "Shift" plus "+" still didn't work to zoom in on Musescore.] In contrast, the "-" (minus) key is on the same key as the underscore - BUT BELOW IT - so you DON'T have to hit "Shift" to type a "-" (minus) sign.

That's why the "-" (minus sign) worked in Musescore to zoom out when "Ctrl" plus "-" was used.

And why the "+" (plus sign) did NOT work in Musescore to zoom in when "Ctrl" plus "+" was used - Musescore saw it as "Ctrl" plus "=".

To fix this, go to Edit -> Preferences -> Shortcuts. At the bottom, click on "Zoom In" and then hit the button marked "Define". This will open a little box that allows you to redefine the keyboard shortcut for "Zoom In".

I set my "Zoom In" to "Ctrl+=".

Now, the "Ctrl" minus AND plus keys behave exactly like I expect in Musescore, zooming out and in effortlessly.

Problem solved.

Thanks again!
