I understand this can be frustrating for you, but it is best to keep this under one thread otherwise it is very difficult for others to follow:
On Linux, I've also had this problem with 0.9.5. What I've found is that the default settings in Edit > Preferences > I/O are incorrect upon installation of this version. Previous versions only had "ALSA Audio" selected (ALSA is the default audio system on my version of Linux). However, 0.9.5 had both ALSA Audio and Port Audio selected. This caused a crash in the audio system (oddly enough it was in jackd, which I did not have enabled in the I/O tab). Because of the crash, I could not bring up the Play panel, and could not play any sound through MuseScore. Disabling Port Audio fixed this problem for me. Perhaps a similar setting conflict issue exists on the OS X version?
