Can't add topic to forum.

I have been trying to add a question but keep getting an error. It works if the body is only a couple sentences but then if I edit to finish my question it disappears from the forum again. What's going on?

I'll attach my question as a reply to above since it seemed to stick (been trying for 20 minutes to post the below question - I can't seem to post this question, I get an error from the forum webpage):

Topic Line : How to best enter additional voices?

Body:
I have been searching for 15 minutes and can't seem to find the answer to my specific question. Perhaps I'm going about something wrong.

I used note entry to enter "voice 1" for about 12 measures.

Now I need to go back and enter a voice 2 for measures 5-7 and 10-12, as these are chorded piano notes with different durations.

What I've been doing is using the mouse to "start" - say, click on measure 5 then do note entry for voice 2, and I can use the keyboard. I'm entering chords though (Shift-C, D, F; arrow right, Shift-E, G, A) the end of the measure. Then I'm stuck at the end of the measure. I want to use the keyboard to continue to enter voice 2 into the next measure, but I can't seem to figure it out, I just end up piling notes into the chord at end of measure 5. So I end up going back to the mouse and putting the first note of measure 6 in, then I can keyboard enter the chords on measure 6, then use mouse again for measure 7, etc.

Is this normal? For additional voices, using chords, is going through multiple measures just not possible with keyboard entry?

Okay I restarted MuseScore and now it seems to work.
I go to voice 2, use mouse to start entering it, and when I'm done with the last chord of measure just enter the next duration, select note (like 'A') and it enters it on the next measure. So it's working fine now. I don't know what was going on.

Still confused about the forum post problem though.

I'm not sure what happened in either case either. I was on the Spanish forum earlier and told my browser to translate the page. On the last post, which is the one I wanted to read, it cut off the beginning and end of the post.

For your problem with voice 2 I can only speculate, and someone else may be able to speculate better, but somehow you must have entered into repitch mode by pressing ctrl-shift-I and since there were no notes in the next measure in that voice it stayed in the measure. If this ever happens again click the fancy N under the new score button and see which input mode is selected. Another possibility is that the shortcut for this mode under Edit->Preferences...->Shortcuts got redefined and you pressed the shortcut that activates repitch mode. In the shortcuts it is called "replace pitches without changing rhythms"

Hi Mike, unfortunately it's not possible to post a comment while having translated the site through e.g. Google translate. The reason is that Google somehow alters hidden fields which are in for security reasons (XSS) and therefore your submission doesn't work. I will keep an eye on it to see if we can change the code on our side to get that translate trick working.

When voice 2 (or 3 or 4) is selected, you can't use the cursor to move into a measure that doesn't already have content in that voice. But you don't need to use the cursor - just enter another note after the last one and it automatically goes there. I'm not quite understanding how you are entering the notes from your description. It would help to attach the score you are having trouble with and to describe a bit better how you are adding the notes. For example you say the first thing you type is "Shift-C", but that doesn't make sense; that command adds a note to an existing chord, it doesn't create a new one.

Thanks for your comment Marc. It did seem to work fine after a restart. But I might have just gotten it out of a funky mode I was in.

I was in note entry mode, and was using shift to create chords, but when it got to the end of the measure even when I didn't use shift it still entered notes on the chord and didn't go to the next measure.

After the restart it worked as expected. Shift added notes to the selected area, and not pressing shift went to the next note.

Hi drgowans, your posting troubles seemed to have occurred on the exact day when we migrated the site to newer hardware. We had to reboot the hardware a couple of times, hence this unexpected behavior. Apologies for that. Keep me posted if you would have troubles again.
