collapsing parts

• Nov 5, 2017 - 16:40

I completed the conductor's score and clicked to edit and then print individual parts. The conductor's score then appeared with all the parts, and I cannot make it go back to just the conductor's score. I can edit one part and then save it with a different name. How do I get back to just the conductor's score, without showing all the parts? Thanks

I just want to view and work on the conductor's score, but when I open it, all the parts open as well, which slows the program down. Plus, these are the parts originally created, not the edited ones. I cannot figure out how to close them. When I click close, the whole group closes, not the individual parts

To be clear: normally you should not be saving the edited parts separately. The whole point of linked parts is to have them together in the score so MuseScore can automatically keep them synchronized. That way, if you edit a part, the change is reflected in the score, and vice versa.

If you have a large score and are concerned about performance, best is to wait until you are basically done with the score before generating parts. Then you can generate the parts, which will indeed slow things down, but by then the bulk of score editing is done and all you need do is clean up the parts.

If for some reason that is not viable, then you can indeed create parts, edit them, save under a new name, and then delete the part. But then you lose all the advantages of linked parts - future edits to the score will not reflect in the parts or vice versa. Meaning whatever performance win you gain is lost many time over by having to manually keep your score and parts in sync.
