MS wav file won't play
Hello, I followed Marc's directions of Apr. 2016 thread and exported a MS file saved as a wav file and burned a CD of my most recaent score. My Windows 10 /computer plays it back fine. However, when I tried it on a small portable Magnavox (about 8 years old) , it won't play it. ( It plays other CDs OK.) Why is this? Should the MS file be exported as some other file besides a wav? Perplexed. Anyone, thanks.

Did you make it an Audio CD rather than a Data CD?

The disc I used is a Memorex music CD-R. Did you mean select Audio CD on the burn software? I think I did. Actually, I just checked on my AnyBurn software, and I see it just shows Add, then select my files or folders, I selected my MS file I wanted, and proceeded to burn. I do not see anything about Audio on the AnyBurn.

Should I try some other software maybe? AnyBurn is free, but supposed to be OK.

hey, I think I chose the wrong task on AnyBurn! The tutorial you sent says burn an audio CD, I had chosen the column on the right, at the top, burn Files to CD or some such thing And yet my computer played it and it sounded OK. But something must not be right, or I think the Magnavox would have played it.

With a computer you can play wav files from both: from a audio CD or a data CD (the difference is on a data CD you can burn different media types, for example documents, music files, graphic files and so on).
But you can't play wav files from a data CD with an audio cd player (maybe like your Magnavox), therefore you've to burn an audio CD as explained in the tutorial.

It all sounds smooth on tutorials, but now I've been trying to get it ready to burn, and ANyburn keeps saying "error reading music files" whenever I try to drag and dro pthe MS wav file. Also, I cannot seem to find the MS file I want on the listwithin the Anyburn box by selecting the file. ????

Be absolutely certain that you see the .wav file extension - for example "My Song.wav" - on the audio file(s) you add to AnyBurn.
MuseScore files - for example "My Song.mscz" - can not be read by AnyBurn.
So...
Close the AnyBurn app, and don't save anything if prompted.
Then follow this tutorial from scratch:
http://www.anyburn.com/tutorials/burn-wav-file.htm
and make sure you are dragging '.wav' files into AnyBurn.

Try mp3.

If you place a CD into the optical drive of your computer you can look at the file extension (don't play the CD, just open it to browse its contents) to determine if it is playable on 'older' equipment (e.g. Sony Walkman, 'older' car stereos). The file extension should read '.cda'. The '.cda' format is playable on most any player - old and new.
To view file extensions, see:
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-show-file-extensions-…
Newer audio equipment will usually display logos showing additional formats - for example, .mp3, .ogg, etc. that they can play.
Those formats can be burned directly onto a CD - without first converting to .cda - and the newer equipment will decode and playback the audio files. When such a CD is placed into the optical drive, the file extensions will show .mp3, or .wav, or .ogg, etc.

pardon me, but I don't know what an optical drive is? Where do I find it in Windows 10?

It's where you insert your CD disk.
Some people think it's a cup holder... 😂

My disc drive on my new Dell is vertical, not horizontal, so I don't see anything that resembles a cup holder. mainly, I do not understand why I am having trouble getting AnyBurn to accept my MS wav file by dragging and dropping, etc. i DID get t0he MS file PINNED to AnyBurn. Now, How can I get it to go from pinned to being ON ANybyrn?? Anyone.?? I don't even know what being pinned means.

As mentioned, be sure the filename actually ends in ".WAV". My recollection is that you are using an ancient unsupported version of Windows, so you might have to jump through a few extra hoops to get AnyBurn to work. But if the WAV file plays on your computer, and the filename ends in ".WAV", and you still have trouble getting it to work with AnyBurn, it is at this point out of MuseScore's hands. You will probably need to consult the AnyBurn documentation / forums / etc for further assistance.

Having Windows 10, you can burn an audio CD using the included Windows Media Player (instead of using that third party application AnyBurn).

Never thought of it that way haha. I just successfully burned my disc with AnyBurn from the MS wav file. And it plays OK on the old beat-up magnavox even. Thanks to everyone for your most excellent help and detailed info!

Hmmm Good idea. I am planning to submit it around to choruses/Xmas music publishers for next year. I do want to be able to do CDs that can have more than one track though. My first disc just goes to my sisters in Wyoming! (I have done one album on CD Baby, but their CD services are expensive.)

Excuse, if it's maybe a little bit off topic beside MuseScore, but these are my own experiences to create CDs:
If you want to create more than one single track, you need for each track a single/separate wave file to burn it (for example export each single mscz file to the wav format and add it into anyburn).
For live recordings I'm using the freeware program "Audacity" to edit it. And for cd-covers the dtp program Scribus or the vector graphics program Inkscape (booth are freeware/open source programs).
