Gathered rests error in part extraction

• Jan 20, 2018 - 14:14

I have a wind quintet score in 2/4 time, with repeats. Each section starts on an upbeat quaver, so
there is a one quaver length bar at the start, and the repeat barline has a 3 quaver length bar to the left and a 1 quaver length bar to the right. In other words it looks as though the repeat barline is three quarters way through the bar. That's as I would expect.

Each section, including the first, starts with some bars rest for some instruments.

No problem in the score but when I extract the parts, the rests are not gathered correctly.

Obviously the first short (one quaver) bar at the beginning of the piece and of each section needs to be shown in each part as a quaver rest, separately from the following bars rest. What actually happens is that it is included in the gathered rests, as a whole bar, which is wrong.

See attached file, in which I have extracted the parts. The mistakes are obvious in all parts except the clarinet which plays the upbeat quaver every time, which is correct

Am I doing something wrong here please?

You've to exclude the upbeat from the measure count (right click->measure properties...), after it it should be shown correct in the parts.

Thanks to all for these comprehensive and very helpful replies!

I have used the "Exclude from bar count" option before, but thought it only affected the bar numbering.

Incidentally, It seems that if you have already extracted the parts, and tick "Exclude from bar count" in the full score, the parts do all now correct themselves - there was a suggestion that you had to "Exclude from bar count" in the full score before extracting the parts.

I have MS v. 2.1.0, running on MacOS High Sierra
