first sonata

• Jan 21, 2018 - 03:09

check out my sonata i'm composing. it's my first composition that i'm working on, so expect it to be bad.
(for some reason i'm composing the finale first. :p) (and it's incomplete, this is just the first theme.)
i'm not sure if the melody is original and any advice would be good.

note: this is a work in progress, I just thought it would be fun to let other people know my progress

I think:
The accompaniment is very dominant. You can think of another kind of accompaniment.
Melody is neither familiar nor unfamiliar.
Time signature changes are not natural. I cannot say that this melody went smoothly.

My advice:
Take melody separately.
First: work on the melody without accompaniment.
Then: work with different accompanies. (Long arpeggios, Short arpeggios, Chords, Walking bass, Alberti style, etc.)

i'm trying to get it to sound angry because this is about me losing my pet scorpion (yes, i'm very weird).

how the heck do you 'take melody separately?'

and with the time signatures, i'll maybe experiment with 4/6 time to see if i dont have to constantly change the time signature.
