Using music

• Feb 3, 2018 - 23:56

Hello there, I'm a trumpet player and on this site, I use a lot of the scores. My friend and I want to use the music on this site for commercial purposes. Can I just do that or how does it work. Sometimes I use a part of one score, the other time all of it. I also change the scores or take part from different scores to make a song for a piano and a trumpet. I hope you guys can help me.
Greetings

There is a distinction between "unpublished" which is a work played amongst a few friends or invited guests and "published" which is a work played to a public. The uploads here are mostly public since the works set to private would not be viewable unless you were invited. You can PERFORM published works commercially, though not in all venues and spaces. Some performances require a special "Grand" right. But It is generally up to the performing rights organizations to collect and disburse monies to its members; the owners of the publishing rights.

You cannot, however, copy, fix and sell works without a license.

But if I want to make a video on youtube where my friend and I play the song together or if we play the song live. Can we do that? Do I need to contact the owner, ask him, or just put him in the description. Where do you get a license? Thanks already for your help!
