Sorry for the late reply.
I meant, a 4/4 time signature has a grouping for 1 1 1 1 or 2 2
If it's 1 2 1 or any other irregular grouping. That's suppose to be incorrect, right? Theoretically speaking.
Quarter - half - quarter is perfectly correct in 4/5, but it is true you should not beam eighth notes this way. That is, quarter, four eighths, quarter needs to have the beams broken between beats 2 and 3. MuseScore already handles that correctly by default. But it will allow you to do other incorrectthings like start a dotted quarter in beat 2. If you find yourself making those types of mistakes - or if they result from cut and paste - MuseScore can fix them for you automatically via Layout / Regroup Rhythms.
So if Im understanding correctly, what you are asking for already exists.
Not right click - "Layout" refers to the actual menu by that name in the menu bar. Except I misspoke in my followup - I had it right the first time, it's under "Layout", not "Notes".

"via Layout / Regroup Rhythms."
How do you do that? I add notes by clicking on that button above the note section and manually enter notes.

Enter the notes as usual. When done, select the passage you entered and click Notes / Regroup Rhythms. MuseScore will correct any errors.

How exactly... I clicked on the passage. Right clicked, couldn't find "Regroup Rhythms'.
