MP3 export: all notes the same volume, please

• Feb 10, 2018 - 11:44

Hello everyone
When exporting a choir score to MP3 in MuseScore, I find that if two voices (from SATB) sing the same note, that note is louder in the MP3 file. This is particularly noticeable when for a number of measures all four voices sing the same note -- suddenly the MP3 file is very loud at that point. I might add that I'm using the same instrument (Yamaha Grand Piano) for all voices.
Is there a way to make MuseScore not increase the volume of notes in the MP3 file simply because more than one voice is playing it?
Thanks
Samuel

I assume you are seeing this with the built-in playback as well - exporting to MP3 shouldn't change anything.
This a side effect of how most MIDI synthesizers work. The usual workaround is to silence all but one of the overlapping notes. In MuseScore, you can do this by unchecking Play in the Inspector for the note in question.

When I export choral music I usually put my part (Bass) up to 100% volume in the Mixer and the other parts down to ~40%. This is mainly so I can learn my part, but it has the added benefit that overlapping notes are less prominent.
