Lyrics' Hyphens and Melisma Lines (Underscores) Do Not Follow Vertical Alignment
Hello,
I'm not sure if this question has already been asked, but I could not find anything in the forum, nor an answer in the handbook.
In short, when I go to "Style -> Text -> Lyrics Odd/Even Lines" and attempt to change the "verticle alignment" of the lyrics, all of the words move, but the hyphens and underscores remain in place - unaligned with the rest of the lyrics.
Is there a way to fix this so that I can adjust the "vertical alignment" of the lyrics globally, if you will, without necessarily adjusting the "offset"?
I have already tried:
- deleting the lyric and melisma and retyping it with the "centered" alignment activated
- activating "centered" alignment, shutting down Musescore and starting it up again and retyping the lyric
- changing the alignment in a specific lyric's own "text properties"
Why I want to achieve this:
For a choir piece, if the sopranos and altos, for example, are signing the same words, I would like the option to put lyrics exactly between the two staves. Turning on "centered" alignment does this perfectly, but the default "baseline" alignment has a vertical offset, if you will.

Thank you for finding this!
I am already aware that I have to 'fix' the "vertical alignment" of the lyrics back to "baseline" to line up the hyphens with the rest of the lyrics; however, my problem was not being able to /keep/ the "centered" vertical alignment AND line up the hyphens, as well.
Unfortunately, apparently according to the conversation to which you have linked, it seems that this might be impossible.

Correct. Short answer - do not mess with vertical alignment for lyrics, it quite simply will not work, as there is too much special processing done for this to produce the desired results in all cases.

Thanks for the info!
I changed the alignment back to "baseline" and was able to finagle around with the "lyrics upper/lower margins" and the "space between staves" to put the lyrics right in the middle!
Everything is good now!
