Adding unlimited 8th notes in a 4/4 bar

• Mar 17, 2018 - 17:43

Hey guys,
I am trying to transcribe "Postlude pour l'office des complies" from Jehan Alain, and there is a part where the organ is playing gregorian chant phrases, in which there is no real notion of tempo but just a succession of notes that can be played as wanted, within 4/4 bars. The notation of this is a various number of 8th notes (sometimes 13, 15,...), and I want to reproduce this notation.
The problem is that I think Musescore does not allow me to add unlimited 8th notes. How can I do so? (the audio result on Musescore does not really matter)

Thank you for all your creativity and knowledge.
Matt

You can do a few things.

  1. enter the notes then use Edit->Measures ->Join Selected measures
  2. Right click the measure, select measure properties and change the actual duration of the measure. You can change the /4 to a /8 if you need for the proper number of 1/8 notes.
  3. Use a combination of the above.

In this case, with the bass clef still being in 4/4, use a custom tuplet and hide the number of it, mike320's methods won't work here I think.
