MIDI output

• Sep 24, 2008 - 18:35

I've just compilied and installed 0.9.3. A quick run looks pretty impressive.

However, I can't for the life of me to get output to my external synth. The first time I run mscore I did have some transport buttons, but those seem to have disappeared :)

In preferences->i/o I click and I guess at . Restart. No joy. Use no difference.

I do have a synth and it works using "aplaymidi -p 16".

bob$ aconnect -io
client 0: 'System' [type=kernel]
0 'Timer '
1 'Announce '
client 14: 'Midi Through' [type=kernel]
0 'Midi Through Port-0'
client 16: 'M Audio Audiophile 24/96' [type=kernel]
0 'M Audio Audiophile 24/96 MIDI'
client 20: 'USB Uno MIDI Interface' [type=kernel]
0 'USB Uno MIDI Interface MIDI 1'
client 128: 'MuseScore' [type=user]
1 'MuseScore Port-0'
2 'MuseScore Port-0'

I do not have JACK running.

I would think that the should correspond to the ALSA ports? But, I can't enter "16".

Okay. Got them back ... thanks for that.

I'm able to play the test scores though my standard audio (kde). No problem. And I can input notes from my MIDI keyboard. Cool.

But, I really can't seem to figure out how to play to the ext. synth. When I hit play the cursor line follows the music, but no sounds.

Midi output implementation is not complete. The "auto connect" feature is not implemented. You need to connect the alsa midi ports mscore creates with your physical midi devices.
I recomment qjackctl for this.

Are you saying that midi out only works with jack? I've spent a bunch of time trying to connect midi ports with mscore and alsa with kaconnect. I see the ports, etc. and set a connection between mscore 128:2 and my also 16:0 but no output. Again, input works fine.

qjackctl doesn't work, I think, without jack running.

Ah well, the internal synth seems to work well enough with a decent soundfont.
