File Conversion

Hello,

Musescore only accepts mscz files. How do I convert a PDF in to a mscz file?

Many thanks,

Dominic

Thank you all for your responses!

Unfortunately, (I've tried this twice) although it says my PDF is : "Status Queued", I received the following message:

"Something went wrong processing the file, please try again. If you keep experiencing the issue, please let us know with the following error status: 502"

All I want to do is to be able to add my scores on to YouTube recordings and I've been trying to do this for about 6 hours, is this the only way?

I would appreciate your thoughts

Best wishes,

Dominic

MusicXML is absolutely the One True Way to share scores between different notation programs. It's not perfect, but it's always going to be 10 times better than MIDI (the second best choice) and 10000 times better than PDF. A PDF is really just a picture and contains no useful musical information at all.

YouTube really doesn't enter it that I can see - the question is whether MuseScore is the best / only way to create a score. It's certainly not the only - tons of other notation programs out there. And a couple of the >$500 programs would generally be considered better. But no doubt MuseScore is the best free option :-), and actually it competes well with most of the commercial programs.

Once you have a score into MuseScore or any other notation program, making a video is easy enough.

NOt sure what you mean. YouTube is indeed a sharing site, but it isn't about scores - it is about videos. So sure, if share a video of your score, people can download those videos. That doesn't mean they have any special access to your scores, any more than the fact that people can download videos of your cat means they have access to your cat.

The whole point of musescore.com is to share scores, indeed. But you don't need to use that web site to use MuseScore. You can create scores entirely on your computers, no sharing involved. And if you wish to create a video of your score to upload to YouTube, you can do that using the same sort of screen lasting software you would use to make videos of a score on Sibelius or of any other program (eg, OBS Studio). MuseScore.com does indeed provide a simple way of doing this, but if you don't want to share your score, you probably don't want that. It is possible to make scores private however.
