Yamaha CVP 705 Guide Mode
Dear All,
I am a Musescore beginner. I have a Yamaha CVP 705 digital piano. I want to use Musescore 2 to make a music sheet and export to a digital file which the piano can read. I want to use the Guide Mode from the piano to play the Left Hand channel and Right Hand channel to practice left and right hand separately. After I made a music sheet and export to a Midi file (.mid) to let the piano read, the piano merged the left and right tracks (Treble and Bass) into one track on the Score screen of the piano. It played together in Guide Mode from the piano.
Can some experts kindly let me know how I make with Musescore 2 to let it work?
Many thanks.
Mike

Sounds like your instrument requires the MIDI file to be on separate tracks. In order to get MuseScore to do that, you need to have the two staves be separate instruments. That is, don't create one instrument with two staves, create two instruments with one staff each. So, in Edit / Instruments, remove one staff, then add another piano instrument and remove one staff from that.

Thanks for your prompt reply. After export the midi file with creating one more instrument in one staff for Bass (left hand) and play on the piano. The piano displays two separate staves with two instruments (seems in two separate tracks and relatively normal). I set track one for Right and track two for Left in the piano. The piano Guide Mode only can guide the Right (melody part, Treble, Track one) even I set the Guide Mode to guide Left or Right.

Well, if the keyboard doesn't like piano music all one one track, and doesn't like it split into two, I'm not sure what to suggest, except to study the documentation for the keyboard a bit more and contact Yamaha support to understand how they want MIDI files structured. If you can come up with a clear description of what the keyboard is expecting, someone here should be able to help you create it.

Anyway, thanks for your help. Your kind advice is so close to the solution.

Make sure that Track-1 is on the midi channel 1 and Track-2 is on the midi channel 2.
Usually (in midi file) Ch1 is assigned to "Right" and Ch2 is assigned to "Left" Hand. (For Yamaha, Piano Guide Mode)
I added a test file. Try this one.
Note: I converted the "test-file" to midi file format-1 (multi track / multi channel).

Thanks for your reply. I tried your midi file with the same result. That means both tracks were guided at the same time. It can't be guided in one hand.

Do you have a chance to add a midi file here that you know is functioning properly? (if yes; please try first and make sure it is correct) It could be one of the midi files that came with the piano.

According to the song copyright, the midi file inside the piano can't be copied.

O.K.
I have 50GreatsForThePiano_2012.zip (from Yamaha's site).
I have studied these: Technically, there is no difference from the file I sent you to try.
In this case, please refer to the setup settings of your keyboard.

First of all, I am so sorry for the wrong description before. It should be:
After export the midi file with creating one more instrument in one staff for Bass (left hand) and play on the piano. The piano displays two separate staves with two instruments (seems in two separate tracks and relatively normal). I set track one for Right and track two for Left in the piano. The piano Guide Mode always guide both Left and Right tracks even I set the Guide Mode to guide Left or Right individually (turn off the Left or Right button) in Guide Mode.

The Yamaha CVP 705/709 user guide sort of implies (on p 78) that you record right hand on ch 1 and left hand on ch 2.

Based on what I'm seeing here, my guess is they actually want only a single track but to have some notes on channel 1 and others on channel 2. Although it isn't really the norm as far as I know, MIDI does technically allow that. MuseScore has no way to create that sort of file directly. But presumably any MIDI editor would allow you to take the MIDI file with two tracks (the one with the staves as separate instruments) and combine them into a single track while keeping the channels separate.
