MIDI keyboard disabled in note input mode

Win 7/10 : MS 2.2.1, revision: 51b8386

In MS 2.2, there is a new feature in Preferences > I/O, allowing the user to set the "MIDI Output". However, the first time a MIDI keyboard is connected, the "MIDI Output" field is blank by default. This means that although you can play sounds from the MIDI Keyboard in Normal mode, Note Input mode from the MIDI keyboard is disabled. The user has to set the "MIDI Output" to "MMSystem<keyboard identifier>", then close and reopen the program.

IMV, it would be a good idea for the program to set the "MIDI output" so that the MIDI keyboard is enabled the first time it is connected.

I'm not sure I'm following - are you talking about input or output? Sounds like maybe output, but you refer a few times to input, so I'm not sure. Note input shouldn't be disabled just because MID output is not selected.
And I'm pretty sure it's deliberate and a good thing that just because you have connected a keybaord for input purposes, that doesn't automatically route the output there as well. The keyboard may or may not be GM-compatible, your score may or may not be expecting a GM-compatible synth, and there are limitations to the MIDI output feature. I think it is intended the user should have to choose to user MIDI output for these reasons.
