Custom Instrument

• Apr 18, 2018 - 05:13

Hello, I am new to Musescore and I am trying to turn an mp3 file into an instrument. I could really use some help, since the handbooks don't make it very clear how to make custom soundfonts or whatever they're called. I just want to make this file into an instrument that can be played in different pitches if possible.

Thanks

You'll generally need more than a single mp3 file to create a soundfont that plays different pitches though you should have a separate recording of each pitch, and preferably several recordings, at different volume levels. It is possible to 'stretch" the pitch of a single note to mimic those a step or two higher or lower, but you can't, for instance, expect a recording of single note on an instrument with a range of two octaves or more to yield decent results.
