electric guitar distortion
So I was transposing a piece that is E-guitar heavy and i noticed that there were no distortions for it. How do I get it to sound like a heavy metal guitar or something similar to that, do i have to use soundfonts( if so how do i set it up [ the hand book was not helpful ] )

You can use a mid-staff instrument change to change the sound of the guitar. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/mid-staff-instrument-changes. You can put any text you like (such as distorted) in place of the work "Instrument." Then use the mixer to change the sound to something you like. You must do this every time you change the sound and each time you enter an new instrument (or go back to an instrument) and a new mixer channel is created each time also. That is how it works today.
There is discussion going on so MuseScore will ignore the midi standards and add channels to the Electric Guitar to allow easier changes in sound. This is extremely unlikely before version 3 though.

wow, that reply was fast thank you so much

Not sure why it would be very unlikely to make it into 2.3, I don't see any compatibility problems

I don't know much about the underlying structure. I suspected adding the channels might lead to backwards incompatibility problems that would be unacceptable.

No, it won't.
