Using an External MIDI Device, part II

• May 2, 2018 - 22:32

Hi, gang!!!

I know, I know!!! I wrote a topic with almost the same tittle and issue, but it is not. It is some deep about the MIDI protocol between MuseScore and the external MIDI devices.

Let's say... We have a Dvorak second movement, from the Ninth Symphony.

This score has the following instruments:
1) Flutes
2) Oboe
3) Clarinet
4) Bassoon
5) C Horn
6) F Horn
7) Trombone
8) Tuba
9) Timbals
10) Violins I and II
11) Violas
12) Celli
13) Basses

All that very beautiful and perfect music is playing so fine, so good, so beautiful, with MuseScore and its internal SoundFont player (synthesizer)!!!

BUT...

When we connect an external MIDI device to our system, we expect that MuseScore can communicate with that device in order to send (and receive) the necessary commands (parameters) to get that external device plays the piece with the instruments are written into the score.

It isn't this way, at all cases!!!

I tested my Casio keyboard, a friend's Yamaha keyboard, and a lent Korg keyboard and... Only the strings section is played with the right instrument sounds.

The other parts... into my Casio keyboard are strings sound only. Into my friend's Yamaha keyboard are just piano sound. Into the Korg keyboard are something like... organ???

The curious thing is at the 3 devices, the real strings section sounds as... strings!!!

So... Is there something missed between MuseScore and the external MIDI device???

Can somebody explains this issue, and how to fix it???

Blessings and Greetings from Chile!!!
