Insert bass clef symbol as text

• May 3, 2018 - 21:54

To match the original .jpg, I'm trying to insert a bass clef symbol using a text block at the end of the second system of this piece. I can't get the whole symbol to display in the text box: It cuts off the bottom half. Changing the font size doesn't seem to make a difference either. Help?

Thanks!

I don't know what you did to insert the bass clef, but you did it wrong. If you either drag the clef to the measure (so the measure changes colors) or select the wrong clef then double click the correct clef, you will automatically get the courtesy clef.

AHA! The first bar of the 3rd system is already marked bass clef. Dragging another bass clef into that bar inserts a supplemental bass clef at the end of the 2nd system--highlighting the coming change. Dragging the bass clef into the last bar of the second system inserts the clef at the end of the previous measure.

Thanks! I didn't know how to do it. I was using text for visual input. I didn't know I could insert the extra clef in the previous measure by dragging.

You are awesome, Mike! Thanks again! :)

I knew I remembered something about courtesy clefs not being created if the next line started with a different clef that was already entered. What probably happened was the OP entered the right hand and a new line with no notes but clefs in both staves was automatically created. She realized the next staff would begin with a bass clef, and entered it, then entered the treble clef while entering the rest of the notes on that line.

"etc." at the end of snippet of music is common. I use text insert to move and adjust it to the best size. Text insert also has many musical symbols that can be inserted. I couldn't figure out how to add the extra clef, so I was going to insert it as a text symbol. It wasn't working for me as it cut off the lower half of the clef when displayed in text.

When I'm recreating these snippets, I don't size the lines until the end, simply because I don't know how to start a new line in a piece. I count how many measures I need when I setup the instruments, and then input the whole piece. When I'm finished, I start resizing the paper, which reduces the measures per system. When I get the correct number of systems to match the .jpg, I tinker with the measures a little bit to get the correct number of measures in each line. Sometimes everything is fine, sometimes measures need to be decreased, sometimes they need to be increased.

On this piece, as well as many others, I entered the data and put off the courtesy clef until after I finished everything else. Because the new clef on the new line arrived there by wrapping, not by actually starting a new line, MuseScore probably didn't realize it needed the extra clef.

Just guessing. Hope that helps explain it. It would be lovely to help you in return for all the help you give me. <3
