How to signify to speak in a song
In music, I think you use the cross head note to signify that you want people to speak that note. However, when playing through the song, when I get to that part, the software treats it as an actual note with tone. How can I fix this?

Yes. It is quite common to put the text “(spoken)” at the beginning of the spoken part.

X head notes have no defined meaning so they need to be explained at least once in every score. Using X heads for spoken words is common.
