More Options for Hide Empty Staves
It just occurred to me, that there should be more options for Hide Empty Staves. For instance, you should be able to select which staves you want hidden and which ones you don't. Say for instance, I'm writing a piano and vocal piece, and I only want the vocal tracks to be hidden when they are not playing, but I want the piano tracks there when it's not playing. There are workarounds of course, where you can just put an invisible note in the staff, but it would be so much more convenient to have more options like this for hiding empty staves.

You can set a staff to never hide, in staff properties, see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/staff-properties
Also, MuseScore 3 will have additional options, including a "Hide when empty", to say you want that one staff to be hidden when empty even when others are not (basically the same as setting everything else to "Never hide").
