copying and pasting phrases

Ctrl+Shift->Home
Hold down Shift+ right/left arrow;
Ctrl+C...

for example:

• select a note
• shift+arrow down to extend the range of the staffs
• ctrl+shift+arrow right or shift+arrow right to extend the in range of the of the measures/notes inside the same staff
• ctrl+c for copy
• navigate to the target measure, ctrl+v for paste

Have you considered reading the handbook (manual)? There is so much good direction there, people have worked very hard to make it all clear.

Copy and paste shortcuts are the same as just about any other program - Ctrl+C for copy, Ctrl+V for paste. Selection shortcuts are also pretty common - with a single element selected, Shift+right extends the select, etc.
