How do I change tempo mid song?
I found a way to add the tempo marking or whatever (the note = 80 thing) but how to I make it so that the playback speed matches the tempo I set in the tempo marking?

Well, I know how to add markings. Sorry to say, the handbook doesn't help. My problem is that even if I add the markings the playback tempo doesn't change... or does it only change the tempo of a single note, the one that I add the marking to? Which wouldn't make sense

You can also override the tempo of an existing metronome mark from the Inspector: Select the tempo mark; Untick "Follow text" in the "Tempo Marking" section of the Inspector

Which version of MuseScore are you running? On which Operating System (Windows? Mac?)
Try:
Untick "Follow text" in the Tempo text section of the Inspector;
In the BMP box enter the desired value;
Tick "Follow text".

You won't get a lot of sympathy if you swear and scream at us... Try to be civil, and you'll find we are more than willing to help.
About your problem: try to change the actual tempo in the inspector in the spin box labeled Tempo. If that doesn't help, be more specific. Attach the score, so we can see what exactly is going wrong.
Well, I turned my PC off and turned it back on and it's working. Sorry for the trouble and thank you for your help. I appreciate it

You seemed to have found one of the many bugs know for tempo text. They are being worked on for future releases.
