'.*.mscz,' files created by Mac/Linux versions of MuseScore are not hidden when viewed on Windows

• Jul 31, 2018 - 08:08

This problem occurs when a folder is shared between Mac/Linux and Windows computers, such as when using a Dropbox shared folder. When a Mac/Linux user saves a score, the resulting '.*.mscz,' is visible on any Windows computer.

Bug: '.*.mscz,' files created by the Mac/Linux versions of MuseScore are not hidden when viewed on Windows
Layman Proposed Solution: The Mac/Linux versions of MuseScore should create a '.*.mscz,' file with the necessary file metadata attribute to make it hidden on Windows

As mentioned in https://musescore.org/en/node/47341#comment-846630 to the best of my knowledge there is no such metadata available in the Linux/Mac/UNIX file systems for the FAT/NTFS 'hidden' or 'system' attributes.

Also this would depend on whatever filesystem the cloud service itself uses, not on what filesystem the host os is using.

Setting that hidden attribute on Windows has been done to emulate the behavoir of Linux/Mac to not show filenames starting with a . by default.

Setting that hidden attribute when syncing from the cloud to a Windows file system would be something the syncing software has to do, so this might be a sensible enhancement request to dropbox.
