Aligning stuff
I use this a lot to align chord names across the page: Drag a straight line from the palette to the score. Highlight one of the handles and lengthen the line with one of the keyboard arrows. You now have a long parallel line which you can drag anywhere to align stuff. If you drag a handle so the line is vertical, (plumb it up with barlines at the end of staves), you can then drag it anywhere to align stuff from top to bottom.

Nice kludge. Thanks for sharing.

See https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/pull/798, if that pull request gets merged, that kludge won't be needed.
FWIW, the simplest & most direct way to align chord symbols is to change the Y offset parameter in the Style / Edit Text Style / Chordname. All chords symbols will automatically move to that location when the score is reloaded. If you want to move only some chords rather than all, you should be able to select the chords you want to move and drag them together, I think by holding Ctrl while dragging. For MuseScore 2.0, you'll be able to define your own custom alternatre chord symbol style(s) to apply to chords you want higher (or otherwise different) than the rest.

I see this useful if, after setting a global distance, a few chords are obscured a bit by notes. Those that need to be tweaked can be standardized.

Yes, and for the record, MuseScore 2.0 will offer several nice ways of doing this. Jn addition to the option of assigning a custom text style to selected chords - useful if you like to have alternate changes above the main ones, for example - there is also the Inspector that lets you dial in offsets precisely, also you can simply click a chord symbol (or other object) and nudge it with the keyboard, which makes it easy to move a precise amount as well.

Great.
which line from the palette are you referring to? And how do you make it a vertical line?
