Tied notes result in chords

• Aug 22, 2018 - 16:09

Here's what happens. If you enter a note that ends a measure then press + to make the note tied to a note in the next measure, if there are any existing notes you will end up with a chord in that measure rather than overwriting the note as expected.

Here is a sample situation:

before tie.png

Enter a 1/2 note and tie a 1/4 note to it (by pressing 5+) and this is what you get:

after tie.png

If you enter a dotted 1/2 note rather than the half note the affected notes in the second measure are replaced as expected.

I was looking for an issue for this in the tracker but there are hundreds of results with all of the searches I have tried. Does anyone know if there is a bug report for this?

Comments

This is not a bug but a deliberate change in response to user complaints that the existing chord was being replaced rather than added to. To me, it's probably 50/50 which is the expected behavior, no matter which way we do it it's likely to be right half the time and wrong the other half.
