Pickup measures
I'm trying to notate a simple Irish tune, but I can't get the lines to come out right.
This is monophonic, in 4/4. There's a two eighth note pickup measure.
If I right click on the pickup measure,the button telling the program to ignore the measure in the measure count is blackened. However, the program still counts that measure ,putting it on the first line with only 3 other measures. From there on, the measure count is correct. How can I fix this?

Exclude from measure count only affect the automatically generated measure numbers on the score, MuseScore still knows the measure is there and counts it in the status bar. If this doesn't help please clarify what you mean.
You mean it gets counted for the "break every x measures"? This is normal, if you want 5 on the 1st system and 4 in the subsequent ones, select all but the 1St measure and run that "break every x measures" command again
