moving notes

• Oct 19, 2018 - 22:28

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone else has a clue about this:

A couple of times I would click on a note to play make, shift the pitch, that sort of stuff, and I happen to be able to move it sideways as if I cut and paste the note on the beat/subdivision before or after. Any idea how to keep doing that? I've only been able to do it a couple of times, and for someone who first writes out the pitches in a melody, I have to go back and fix the rhythm, but I'd rather be able to select a note and move it horizontally, instead of copying and pasting, or just rewriting it, but then it gets messy

As long as it's not to or from the last note before a rest you can go into note entry mode and use shift+arrows to move notes sideways. For some reason it doesn't work if the note start or end point is followed by a rest.

While in note input mode, Shift+Left/Right does indeed swap a note or rest with its neighbor, if they have the same duration. Only works for that specific case. This is not going be to enough to really allow you to write notes first then add rhythms. MuseScore just isn't designed for that sort of thing. Better to use pencil and paper if necessary until you're a little more confident about the rhythms you want to enter. It's possible MuseScore 3.0 will support that workflow slightly better, but I suspect it's still going to be fitting a square peg in a round hole.
