grace note position (no space at all before next note)

• Oct 26, 2018 - 20:26

How can I adjust position of grace notes. All my grace notes run into (are touching) the following note. I see how to adjust spacing individually, but where/how can I adjust the spacing for all grace notes so they will not overlap the parent note next to them. And I would like to increase the space between grace notes and the preceding bar line, that too is very tight. Thanks for help on this.

Thanks for your quick reply. Changing chord offset was perfect to fix this throughout in relation to the related note. That moved the grace notes even closer (almost touching) to the preceding bar line however, so do you have any suggestions to increase space a little between grace notes and the preceding bar line? I have 2 note grace notes. Again, I can do this individually, but if there were one way to set it for all that would be nice.

p.s. I am new to Musescore and so far think it is fantastic for fine tuning. As a graphic artist, being able to control the details for function/readability and visual is so important. I am enjoying learning all...

MuseScore does allow you to adjust many features of layout but usually does a pretty good job of getting the spacing right on it s own. For particulr problems it is often best to post the actual score you are concerned wth.

I found the solution in Style; General; Measure; Barline to grace note distance. Totally obvious and easy fix, it just took me a quite a while to find that setting option. Meanwhile I had already fixed each one individually so didn't have the problem sample score to post. But now I know of this setting for future. Thanks so much!!

FWIW, though, the defaults should have been fine on their own. So I'm not sure what might have been going on to make you start messing with this. Could be something about the specific arrangement of notes I guess.
Feel free to try reproducing this issue in another score and if you can, let us know!

I fully suspect user error... I might have changed this default setting unintentionally while learning and exploring all the program options and just didn't realize. I subsequently had trouble finding it again (though it is quite obvious now that I know). The musescore handbook and all my google searches explained how to add grace notes, alter pitches etc. etc. all which I could do, but not where to find this setting to control their positioning generally. I really appreciate the responses and all good now!
