Custom Line thicknesses within staff

• Nov 1, 2018 - 22:06

Hello, it would be a very useful feature if the thickness of lines within the staff could be adjusted individually. Thank you.

Why and for what purpose exactly?

See, this too is open source: you need to convince the core developers about the usefulness of a certain feature

I would note there was someone who worked for a while on experimental notation capabilities, but his work ended up diverging pretty far from the main source and I'm not sure it would be mergeable. I believe someone tried picking this up later but I don't know that he got anywhere either. Maybe someone else remembers more?

As I added in the other thread: When adding extra lines to the staff, I believe it will be easier to quickly ascertain the notes by making certain lines thicker and certain lines more faint, so that it is less busy then having 7 uniform lines. I am writing music in a different form of notation similar to Chromatic Notation, which I have included a picture of, that is designed to make it easy to see the correct distances of intervals between notes. This is especially useful for sight singing, and combined with shape notes, makes singing together a glorious and divine experience for all to enjoy. It is much easier to teach others who do not understand standard notation, and then more people get to experience the joy of singing harmonies together.

It would also be nice in guitar TAB since, with 6 strings, there is no middle line. Having an option for thicker, (or even different coloured), lines would make it easier to sight read frets on 3rd vs 4th string. (TablEdit guitar software has an option tickbox to "Display treble lines thinner").
