Please support note Insertion (with ensuing notes moved forward)

• Nov 12, 2018 - 23:31

As a composer I often try to capture the main themes of the piece as it flows to me, and then I go back to review and add in detail. I often realize I missed a note or had an incorrect duration. I'd like to be able to insert a note or modify the duration with all the ensuing notes being pushed forward appropriately (Almost exactly as requested by the user in this thread: https://musescore.org/en/node/90126).

I understand that it could have ambiguous semantics, such as, do you want to:
a. insert and push all notes forward to the end of the piece? or
b. insert and push all notes forward to the end of this measure? or
c. just overwrite (which I believe is the current behaviour)

I think we should support cycling through these modes akin to how the insert/overwrite key works in a word processor today.

Please, please consider adding this feature at the earliest opportunity - I'm spending a lot of time just cutting and pasting notes in the meantime :-)

In version 3 you can insert a note. It makes the measure longer to accommodate the extra note(s) and puts a small, nonprintable mark in the measures. It will be up to the user to decide what to do about this.
