Start a score with a Caesura?

• Nov 25, 2018 - 14:11

I cannot find a way to put a Caesura before the first note/rest in a score. If I attach a Caesura to a note, it always puts the pause after that note. Is there a way to start a score with a pause? If not, there should be...

Putting a caesura before the first note doesn't make any sense. The caesura tells to to pause. How can you pause when you haven't started yet?

I will admit I have seen songs with rests starting the first measure for everyone. I thought the editor didn't want a short pickup measure.

It makes perfect sense in the context of a score that is synchronized to a video that has a non-musical opening. I admit that this is an off-label use for caesuras, but it's an ideal one. Previously I have had to calculate tempos to 2 decimal places and create one opening measure at that weird tempo, then switch to the normal score tempo.

Of course, given your response, I'm sensing that the answer to my question is No. And given that it's not in the normal order of things, it's not a straightforward thing to code either. You'd have to attach the caesura to the clef, or some other element pre-note/rest, or create an option for caesuras that is before vs. after the attached note/rest.
Ugh. I'm going to have to continue with my tempos to 2 decimal places, which is an enhancement of its own, as tempos only go to 1 decimal place at this time.
I'm going to ponder this a bit and see if there's a sane, sensible way to integrate my requirement of an opening pause in seconds, not beats. Any suggestions are appreciated, but that moves this discussion to the Features Request forum...
