Invisible note positioning (MS3)

• Dec 5, 2018 - 23:35

Would it be possible to apply the same note positioning rules to invisible (gray) chords as in visible chords (another voice)? Now the notes go on top of each other in close positions .

This is a minor thing but I like to have chords on background (set invisible, grayed on screen) when writing melody line. In the example you can see how the tones are positioned when visible and invisible. Just got an idea that visible but different colours could be used instead. Invisibles are good because they don't have to be deleted before printing.

I think I see what you mean. If the chord is visible, then we get automatic handling of things like the adjacent notes G & A being paced on opposite sides of the stem, but if the chord is not visible, then this doesn't happen - the notes end up on the same side of the stem. That's actually deliberate, and it's the same as in MuseScore 2. In general, it's not good for invisible things to affect other things, and consider, what if you made just one of those notes invisible, you wouldn't want it affecting the position of the other.

I'm not getting entirely what you are trying to do, but if it's so you can hear chords playback, don't use invisible notes for this - use an invisible staff. That is, enter the notes normally onto a staff, then when you don't want to see it any more, go to Edit / Instruments and turn of "Visible".
