Musescore crashes

I am using Musescore 3. I just downloaded the latest update and I can't keep musescore open. It crashes as soon as the dialogue box to choose latest projects comes up, or I open a recent file. It stays open for a little while longer if I directly open the file from my scores folder.

please help, this is maddening.
