Beginner Rhythm Change Question (or glitch?)

• Mar 8, 2019 - 06:04

I'm very new to MuseScore and was just putting together my first arrangement recently. I am trying to do something very simple: there is a measure in which I have a half note, but in order to make the beat more clear I want to change that half note to a dotted quarter note tied with an eighth note. However, as you can see in the screenshots, when I do this (the half note in particular that I change is the D note in measure 5), it completely messes up the the entire score and for some reason makes one measure stretch across an entire row, and makes the entire second page blank. I'm so confused by what is probably a simple fix. Any help?

To be clear: the top screenshot above (the one that shows the blank second page) is what occurs after I change the half note to the dotted quarter tied with an eighth. The screenshot below that is how it should look, and if you look at measure 5 you'll see that's when the D is still a half note.

The change made the measure wider, and it no longer fit on the line. It's like word wrap, sometimes you add one letter to a word and it pushes the last word of the line to the next line. Perfectly normal. It only causes a prlblem here because you have a system break on that measure, so remove that. Again same would happen in a word processor if you had a paragraph break after the last word in a line and then word wrap pushed that word to the next line - it would get a line to itself.
