How to add text that is not associated with any note
I want to be able to add comments anywhere on the page which are not associated with any note or bar. Also to place similar comments before the start and after the end of the score. I can't find a way to do this.

It's not clear exactly how you'd want MuseScore to place this, but if it's literally not aassociated with any note, then one possibility is to use a frame (horizontal, vertical, or text). If after readin about frames in the Handbook your not sure how these might work for you, then feel free to followup here and explain more about what you are trying to do - ideally accompanied by an attached score - and we'll be able to understand and assist better.
