SATB Closed Score- Cannot eliminate extra rests after inserting SATB parts

• Apr 18, 2019 - 22:01

When using SATB closed score, after adding soprano, alto, tenor and bass parts there is a bunch of rests left showing in the bass clef staff. In the past I could select all the same elements in the staff and delete. This would cause the rests to be muted and when I printed music, these would not print. With Musescore 3, I cannot get these rests to mute or delete. The select all the same elements does highlight them, but to cut or delete does not work. Any suggestions?

Please attache the score, you've trouble with.

Works fine for me (selecting a rest, right click->select->more... "same voice" and "same staff") and deleting the selection (or better select it invisible inside the inspector or via shortcut "v").

You should add the tenor part in voice 1 in the bass clef and the bass part in voice 2 in the bass clef. MuseScore forces you to have either rests or notes in voice 1 to fill the measure with the correct duration. Voices are a per-staff property and you should start again at voice 1 for each new staff you have.

Rests are mute by definition. I guess you mean invisible?
I furthermore guess you are using voices 1 and 2 in the top staff for soprano and alto (which is OK) but voice 3 and 4 in bottom staff for tenor and bass, which is wrong, use voice 1 and 2 there too and no excess rests should show, voice 1 is always there, even if only as rests.
