Exporting special noteheads to musicxml?

When I import a musicxml exported by Musescore into another program, all the special percussion note heads are converted to the standard default dot. Is this to be expected? Doe musicxml not accommodate non-standard note heads?

After some exploration, I determined that this a Musescore bug/oversight. Exported musicxml files lack notehead declaration. See issue: #288687: Musicxml export does not include notehead specification when using custom notehead definitions
To follow up - MuseScore does support export and import of non-standard noteheads, but only when using a predefined "notehead group" as opposed to the special custom groups that allow you to use different noteheads depending on duration (an extremely esoteric feature most people would never need).
