Custom Styles: Positioning

• May 4, 2019 - 16:38

When applying left or right-hand fingering styles from the standard palette the vertical offset is applied relative to the selected note. I can't find a way to define my own custom styles to behave like this; my styles always end up with a fixed vertical offset. Is there any way to make this relative?

I believe fingerings have a special placement algorithm that cannot be borrowed for other text. It sounds like you want a user defined text to act like a fingering, and this won't happen.

If you don't use fingerings for anything else, it's possible to make it work, but I'd need to know you're not using fingerings for anything else and what you expect.

I'm using my own styles for guitar fingering with TAB as I don't want the vertical position to be relative to the note. (I can see that this would make sense with notation for TAB it can make things harder to follow as the notes are already numeric).

What I want to do is to hide tab fret numbers and replace them at their exact position with a number in bold FreeSans font, thereby making the score notes bold – more like notation.

I think that I get what you're saying: I could use the standard fingering for this purpose since I'm not using these styles elsewhere.

Thanks, I've tried the various tab fonts but find MS Tab Sans the clearest –unfortunately there's no bold version. However, your previous comment has pointed me in the right direction. It will be a bit labour intensive but will (hopefully) be worth it.
