When I in the notaion menue and would like to set a repetition sign, I cannot click it to put it in my system. What's wrong?

Except for the begin repeat barline, the barline always gets applied to the end of the measure. You need to select the entire measure and double click the barline. There are other features possible, but this is the simplest way to use it.
What repetition sign, :| , |: , % ?
How do you try to put them in your system? Just select a measure and double-click those signs
