How to create single measure cadenzas

Single measure cadenzas are pretty common. I attached an excerpt to this post for any that would like an example. I tried make a single measure cadenza in one of my scores by joining a bunch of measures, but when I next opened the file it was corrupted. I am not at my computer right now but possibly later I can attach a file. I would like to know if there is a better way to do this.

Which version are you using? If it's 3.0.5 or the beta, then I would use the insert mode (timewise input till 3.0.2) and insert the notes needed for the cadenza. In the other instruments that will be displayed, I would then select the first rest and press ctrl+shift+delete to make the rests measures rests if possible. You can then adjust the rests and make any you don't want to see invisible. If notes need to be held, but not seen, then enter the notes and make them invisible.
