MIDI Keyboard Input
Hello,
I'm trying to enter notes using my electronic keyboard. It is a HP-1 Roland Digital Piano. MUSEScore 3.0 doesn't seem to recognize that the keyboard is attached. When I hit the notes, nothing appears on the staff. I've changing all of the settings on I/O under preferences, and rebooting the program, but with no success.
Where am I going wrong?

Assuming you connected and turned on the keyboard before starting MuseScore (?), and you are in note input mode (?), then the next most likely possibility is that you don't have 64-bit drivers for the keyboard.

When I plugged in the MIDI-USB cord, Windows automatically installed the driver to set it up. Is this what you are referring to?

Yes. It may be that only a 32-bit driver was available, and you need to find a 64-bit one. Assuming you already checked the other things I mentioned. Are you getting sound at least?

Presumably on the Internet somewhere, just do a search, or contact Roland.

OK, so I just tried to use the MIDI cable with a different computer (a Macbook Air) and it was the exact same problem. The program did not recognize the electronic keyboard at all.
I've looked at the Roland webpage and other places on the internet and I cannot find a 64 bit driver that works with Windows 10.
Is there anything else that can be done? I'm seriously frustrated.

A few other details:
I know that the USB-MIDI is recognized by the computer because when I enter in notes using the computer keyboard, a blue light flashes on the MIDI cable.
I installed MuseScore- 32 bit version and MuseScore 2, and neither of those are picking up the Roland piano. It's the same problem.
Perhaps it is not the problem of the driver, but something else?

A very common problem is having your midi cables plugged in backwards on the keyboard. Flip your cables and see if that helps. I think its unlikely to be any sort of a driver issue on your windows pc since usb-midi has been around for quite some time. We have a Roland digital piano and we've never had a problem even with the < $10 devices. We did eventually buy the Cakewalk (now Roland ) interface device because of some minor realtime performance issues a DAW program.

You're a genius! It worked. Very strange- the MIDI cables were incorrectly labeled so MIDI out is MIDI in and vice versa.

The out cable from the midi device goes to the in slot on the computer and the other way around. This is what actually happens with the signal. I think it's too logical and often causes confusion.
