how to add a steam to the quarter note
Every time I try to note a quarter note it keeps showing up without the stem, why is that?

Huh?
Every note shorter than a whole notes has a stem (and every note shorter than a quarter has flags or beams).
If you don't want that, make them stemless via Inspector

Oh! I see its all in the inspector part that shows if its checked steamless, thank you! First time I am using this.
