My Midi keyboard won't talk to Musescore 3

• Jun 14, 2019 - 09:37

i wish to play the melody line of a song for Musescore to automatically transcribe as i go but although I have followed all the instructions, Musescore doesn't seem to be able to 'hear' the music

Things to check:

Open the menu item: Edit→Preferences... (Mac: MuseScore→Preferences....)
Then...
On the Note Input tab, put a check in "Enable MIDI input"
See:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/preferences#note-input
On the I/O tab, what appears at "MIDI input"? Is your Midi keyboard listed?
See:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/preferences#i-o

Also...
Be sure to follow these steps:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/note-input#midi-keyboard
(especially start MuseScore after the Midi keyboard is switched on.)

On the toolbar, in the playback controls, toggle the 'MIDI Input' button on.
See:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/viewing-and-navigation#toolbars

Also read:

Be sure you are actually in note input mode. But if you're expecting to just play in rhythm and have MuseScore accurately transcribe things in real time, I'm afraid that's not how it works. The main note input mode is still one note at a time whether you use a MIDI keyboard or another method of selecting pitches. You can try one of the "semi-real-time" input modes, but they are still very far from just playing whatever you want and having it transcribed. That technology just isn't really well developed yet.
