the little brown dot when selecting my first ending (volta)

• Jun 20, 2019 - 18:42

Hi, I had asked for help I think last week without posting with my score. I realize that I couldn't find help without posting said score so here I am. Frankly, when I print the music, it won't matter but it's bothering me; I have a first and second ending as well as a ds al coda and coda. I must have put them in wrong because when I play the song, it doesn't work.

Since you're vague about what doesn't play right, I think you mean the voltas don't play correctly. This is because you selected all or part of measure 83 when you applied the volta 1. You then dragged the end of the volta to make it look longer, but it in reality only covers measure 83. The easiest fix is to delete the volta select measures 83-90 and double click the volta in the lines palette. This will make the volta both look and play correctly.

By the way, that little brown dot tells where the end of the volta is actually attached to the score. As you can see, if you select each end they both point to measure 83. The moral of this story is avoid double clicking any line (including slurs) and dragging the end to make it look right. Always click the start note, shift + click the last note and then double click the line in the palette.
